Install Trigger Client on Windows

Windows 10 / 11 / Server, x64

Application location: any secure directory, e.g. C:\Program Files\trigger_cl

1 Install the client into a secure directory

Pick a directory only administrators can write to and drop the exe plus config.ini there. Program Files is the conventional choice.

Copy trigger_cl.exe and config.ini into a directory of your choice — typically something only administrators can write to:

C:\Program Files\trigger_cl\
    trigger_cl.exe
    config.ini
2 Point the client at the server

Edit config.ini and fill in the [server] section. Use an elevated editor — non-elevated Notepad silently drops writes under Program Files.

Open config.ini in an editor started as Administrator and edit the [server] section:

[server]
ip   = trigger.itperfectservice.com
port = 9000
3 Generate the device key

Run the binary once from an elevated prompt to produce key.bin and print its matching key string. Both are needed to pair this host with the mobile app.

cd "C:\Program Files\trigger_cl"
trigger_cl.exe --export-bin key.bin
trigger_cl.exe --show-key

4 Register the key on your Android device

Hand the key material to your phone: the binary file onto the device, the printed string into your account. From now on the phone can issue commands to this host.

  1. Copy key.bin to your Android device.
  2. In the Trigger mobile app, add it under your account.
  3. Save the printed KEY-XXXXXXXXXXXXX string — it identifies this host in the mobile UI.
5 Open Task Scheduler and create a new task

Task Scheduler is the Windows equivalent of a systemd unit. The advanced Create Task dialog gives per-tab control over triggers and privileges — unlike the Basic wizard it exposes everything the client needs.

  1. Press Win+R, type taskschd.msc and press Enter.
  2. In the left panel select Task Scheduler Library.
  3. In the right Actions panel click Create Task… (not Create Basic Task).
6 Configure the task

Each tab in the Create Task dialog controls one aspect: identity, when to fire, what to run, and what not to let interfere. These are the exact settings the client needs.

Fill in each tab in the Create Task dialog:

General
Name: Trigger Client. Under Security options enable Run whether user is logged on or not and Run with highest privileges.
Triggers
Click New…, set Begin the task to At startup, click OK.
Actions
Click New…, Action: Start a program, Program/script: full path to trigger_cl.exe (e.g. C:\Program Files\trigger_cl\trigger_cl.exe).
Conditions
Under Power, uncheck Start the task only if the computer is on AC power.
Settings
Uncheck Stop the task if it runs longer than ….
7 Save and start

Confirm the task; Windows may prompt for the Administrator password to store the credentials. Right-click → Run avoids a reboot for the first start.

Click OK. If prompted, enter the Administrator password. Right-click the task → Run to start it immediately without a reboot.
